The Future of Classical Music

Greg is a music critic and writer who is putting together a book on Classical music, more specifically what is wrong with classical music these days: aging audience, shrinking ticket sales, the relevance of classical concerts in today's world. It is a subject that I have been thinking allot about. Think about it, if you weren't used to going to a classical concert, would you feel welcome there? I think there is too much etiquette and too many preconceived notions; it is stuffy, it is only for rich people,you need to be educated about the music. I am a firm believer that classical music has something to say to EVERYONE. But there must be a way to convince people of this. Maybe the format we are using now is wrong. Think of how hip an art gallery opening is, for example. Young people dressing and looking how they want. When did classical concerts become so stuffy? I urge you to take a look at his website, and join me in a discussion about this. How do you feel about classical music concerts? What do you like? What needs to change?

Exciting Opening Weekend

Well we just performed our opening classical concerts this past weekend and I couldn't have been happier. The orchestra and I are really enjoying working together and I hope the audience feels the same excitement that we do. We also had some fantastic social events, both pre and post concert, including a wonderful get- together at Cin Cin's after the Sunday Matinee. It was fun for me and the musicians to mingle and to get to know all of you even better. If you missed the fun, make sure you join us next time.

Hello everyone.

Welcome to my new blog! I am so excited to have this opportunity to tell you all about the happenings at the SWFLSO throughout the season. We will also talk about music, the orchestra world, life in general, etc. You will also have the chance to respond and please feel free to do so. My hope is this will be an outlet for all of you to express your feelings about your orchestra.
